School isn’t Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm anymore. It might be just Monday and Wednesday or only afternoons. It can be every day too. We don’t hand out schedules; we create them.
We create schedules that align to students’ optimal learning times and leave time for exploring their interests outside of the classroom. You may already understand when you learn best; if not, take our Learning Preference Inventory to find what works best for you.
Because of our flexible schedules, Futures students are encouraged to focus on their interests inside and outside of the classroom. Here are some of the options students can choose from to create a schedule and learning experience that works for them:
When the traditional classroom model isn’t working for students, it’s often due to one of the reasons above. Futures Academy’s innovative teaching model overcomes these learning obstacles and helps students excel again.
Optimal learning times differ by student. Some students learn better in the early morning, late morning, or even afternoon times. Some learn better by concentrating classes on certain days or in certain time zones. That’s why we implemented the Learning Preference Inventory to determine your child’s peak learning time. By aligning your child’s most challenging classes to his/her optimal learning times, we can increase their productivity and academic performance.
Your Schedule
Traditional schools have to “teach to the middle” or to a ‘typical’ student. In our model, we teach to ‘you’. This means we pace instruction to your pace. For topics that students find more difficult to learn, the teacher will slow down the pace and for topics that students pick up more quickly, the teacher can move along. This tailored pacing assures students achieve content mastery before continuing – so no one gets lost, bored, or left behind.
Your Pacing
In one-to-one instruction, the teacher is able to get to know the student’s interests and incorporate these interests into learning. If you’re a surfer, your math problems might relate to the height or speed of waves or how long it would take the surf board to stop. When students receive instruction tailored to their interests and learning preference, their outcomes improve.
Your Interests
As a professional surfer, I am able to travel and compete because I go here. My schedule is flexible and the teachers work with me to make sure I don’t fall behind and they’re super positive and supportive.
