(Walnut Creek, CA – August 19, 2021) Futures Academy’s Walnut Creek campus was recently awarded “School of the Year” for its exceptional parent and employee loyalty scores during an unprecedented challenging year.

“Our families relied on us without question during an unparalleled year of uncertainty,” said Kelly Bozarth, President of Futures Academy. “Our teachers together with our campus leadership teams were selfless, and often put our students before their own interests. My respect and gratitude for our Walnut Creek campus – and all of our Futures Academies - is without measure.”

For 35 years, Futures Academy has found ways to adapt education to individual student needs, a benefit of the one-to-one and small group learning models. Teachers customize instruction to each student’s learning style and pace. Most classes are taught in person throughout 15 California campuses.

“When I think of the frontline workers throughout this pandemic, my team is front and center,” said Derek Cavilla, Head of School of Futures Academy Walnut Creek campus. “Students shine when they are engaged with a teacher who understands them. This award affirms our team’s commitment to personalized learning. I could not be prouder!”

The Futures Academy mission starts with relationship. Futures schools connect teachers and students in environments that build a sense of belonging, hope, and excitement for the future. Academic instruction is focused on a student’s skills, interests, needs and rate of progress. That is the foundation for the personalized approach to education.

“Student success is a direct reflection of our powerful partnerships with our families, our education and mental health professionals, and our greater communities,” Bozarth said. “Students flourish when we are united in our mission to help them realize their potential.”

Futures Walnut Creek had some of the highest parent and employee loyalty scores throughout California. The Walnut Creek campus opened in 2015 and will begin the new upcoming academic year with 77 students; small schools are a hallmark of Futures Academy. The Walnut Creek campus is one of four Futures Academies in the Bay Area and 15 in California.

Futures Academy offers students in grades 6-12 an alternative to the traditional classroom and helps students develop the knowledge, skills, mindsets, character, and habits needed to achieve personal goals. Futures Academy has long provided virtual options and continues to be a reliable option for families in need of online learning. Futures Academy is currently offering in-person, hybrid and live online one-to-one instruction format.

The Walnut Creek school was one of a select few recently recognized at the company’s annual meeting. The School of Year Awards are the company’s equivalent of the Oscars and celebrate campus leadership teams for their accomplishments. Award winners were nominated by school leaders across the Fusion Education Group, which operates more than 80 schools - grounded in its one-to-one education model - throughout the country.
